Did I ever tell you what the definition of a video game is?

Today, we’re looking at our 2012 Advent Calendar winner,Far Cry 3.

And yet, in those halcyon days of 2012, we named it our game of the year.

Mechanically, I hasten to add.

Three things to do?

It provides something mostopen-world gameslack these days.

Space to roam, space to experiment.

After an introductory sequence, youre sort of just left to your own devices.

Go find some radio towers.

Skin a dog to make a new wallet.

Start a fire and coo as it burns realistically across a grassy hillside.

Its a good laugh.

It all feels very lean.

Stealth is simple but effective.

Its fresh and exciting.

Far Cry 3 has largely held up, Jason Brody and his intolerable cohort aside.

Can the series ever reach this high again?
