Warhammer 40K: Chaos Gate: the best kind of tactical mayhem

Bloomin' marvellous I’ve never been one for playing aggressively in turn-based tactics games. To say I’m overprotective is an understatement. Thankfully, the Grey Knights inWarhammer 40K: Chaos Gate - Daemonhuntersare made of sterner stuff. I mean, just look at these brutes. It may not be my most natural style of tactical manoeuvring, but man alive is it liberating. But Complex Games haven’t just put Firaxis' colossal strategy epic up on a fancy gothic pedestal here....

What's better: drawbacks, or a load of lasers?

But I accept the decision, and our mission continues. Drawbacks “Games are a series of interesting decisions,” Civlord Sid Meierfamously declared. My favourite interesting decisions involve drawbacks (which I guess I consider a subset of trade-offs?). Something good will happen, but…! Choosing between several good outcomes can be nice and comforting, with no bad feeling of messing up. Choosing between the lesser of two evils can be interesting too. But the decisions I often most enjoy come with drawbacks: something good will happen, at a cost....

Ron Gilbert is making the Monkey Island he wants, not the one you're expecting

To briefly recap: Gilbert was creator, co-designer and co-writer on the first two Monkey Island games. It’s to that post specifically that Gilbert refers ina new blog post. “My point is these were not commandments handed down and etched in stone on a giant tablet. Here’s the deal. The totality of that idea was ‘Guybrush chases the demon pirate LeChuck to hell and Stan is there.’ That’s all it was....

The Garden Path has the same long term risk/reward as actual gardening

There’s more to say as well, but that was my main takeaway from the current build. Presumably after some effort on my part I can shape it how I’d like. But if current trends hold that will take a long time. It’s a very nice garden, to be fair. There are different kinds of grass and clover, and many varietals of herb. Things flower at different times. And the next one is in about a month....

This puzzle game is basically Resident Evil 4 inventory Tetris

For less than two quid, yeah, I’ve been happy with this one. Save Room basically is just Resident Evil 4’s inventory Tetris, albeit on irregular grid shapes. And of course you could combine red, green, and yellow herbs. Some channel RE7 with crafting ammo, too. Save Room is fun. It’s fun enough. I like inventory Tetris and this expands RE4’s decent inventory Tetris into a full puzzle game well enough....
