Thirsty Suitors review: a breezy, janky RPG with emotional maturity

While they shine in terms of visuals and storytelling, theyre a bit lacking on the complexity front. Jala is a solo operator, so there isnt a party to bounce off of either. While you might not have a party to bounce off, you do have a skateboard at least. There are multiple challengers to complete and skaters to unlock. The times where youll be on foot instead of on your board are few and far between....

This 42-inch LG C3 OLED is £450 off-format gaming monitor

Why spend close to 1000 on a premium ultrawide when you’re free to get a much larger 16:9 screen instead? Large gaming monitors can reach some crazy-high prices - so what’s to stop you from getting a smaller 4K TV instead? You get a much bigger screen for the money plus TV functionality, and if you choose carefully you won’t give up PC niceties like 4K 120Hz support or FreeSync and G-Sync compatibility....

What's better: ghosts walking through walls, or soulslike bloodstains?

Last time, you decided thatblink teleports are better than summoning spectral animals. What’s better: ghosts walking through walls, or soulslike bloodstains? Honestly, I think it’s even worse when the ghosts teleport about. So here’s to those games where ghosts move through walls as if they were water! I apologise for aDark Souls-heavy week but: I really, really like the ghosts in New Londo Ruins. Quite a few games spawn ghosts from inside walls, sure, but then trap then in reality....

It's "frightening" how fast we have to release Like A Dragon games to stay "relevant", says Yakuza writer

We want our games to be out there at the moment they are relevant. When you eat food, you don’t analyze it logically, you’re just feeling it spontaneously." One developer handles the same physics-driven minigame for several games at once, for instance. Apparently, the localisation teams generally manage it in 10 months. Good organisation aside, it’s hard to imagine all this not involving absolutely humongous amounts of overwork. Duly noted, JP....

Jusant review: a show don't tell masterpiece

Video game characters aren’t often big on show don’t tell in 2023. I loveHZD’s Aloy, but does she ever just stream-of-consciousness her way through life. There are no other NPCs. You are climbing up through the ruins of an old civilisation. You’ve got to have faith in your environmental storytelling if you’re making a game like that. And Don’t Nod have nailed it. And at some point that water began to disappear....

PC Game Pass is getting nearly every interesting game in November

Grungy, low fantasy stabbing sandbox Wartales has also arrived, several months after we labelled it thrilling. To my mind, basically every major, interesting game from November is on the way to the subscription. To my eye, the only major first-half-of-November release not listed is Modern Warfare 3. Presumably that’ll arrive soon enough, given Microsoft’s looming acquisition of publishers Activision Blizzard.

Remedy discuss Control 2 and the Max Payne remakes, while Sam Lake teases "huge budget dark gothic fantasy"

“Control 2 continues in the proof-of-concept stage,” the developers declare in the note. We will continue at this stage for the next few quarters. I’m not sure what I want from a Control sequel. More weirdness, I guess, but that’s also what I want from most sequels. A touch more emphasis on investigation, ethereal story sequences, and non-combat puzzles, perhaps? Much as I enjoyed the original, it’s a bit of a meatgrinder in places....
