The RPS Selection Box: James’ bonus games of the year 2023

I apparently have a throw in. And theyre all… colourful, quite short indie platformers? Hmm, maybe I havetwotypes. The Windows release is its own feelgood story, too. Im mighty glad it did. You are Smushi, after all, and you gotta come home. Gigantic by Smushi scale, at least. I played most of this on a plane, and had to avoid audibly awwww-ing. Like all the best exploration games, Smushi Come Home also makes sure that wandering is always rewarded....

The RPS Selection Box: Kiera's bonus games of the year 2023

My pile of shame is ever-growing, but here are a few games I did play and actually liked. This is all while being shadowed by a mysterious cult-like group of fellow immune people. Sometimes you just want to sit back and hack at some zombies with buddies. If you loved the originalDead Island, you’ll get a real kick out of this one. By that same token, if you didn’t, well, you’ll probably hate Dead Island 2....

The RPS guides team looks back at 2023

A year filled with somevery excellent games, and somevery not excellent games. But today, we’re staging a coup. 2023 has been an amazing standout year for guides. Let’s start with the quantity. This year, we published over 1000 guides, which is more than any year in RPS’s history. That’s pretty special, and I’m very confident we’ll smash that record next year too. After that, the year began in earnest with theDead Space remake....

The RPS Selection Box: Alice Bee's bonus games of the year 2023

I didn’t play quite as many small, odd things as I would have liked in 2023. So I thought I’d struggle to come up with three reminders for you for the Selection Box. And yet I didn’t! They’re also very on brand. Words and murder you say? Maybe in 2024 I should make a resolution to switch things up a bit. I don’t trust the priest, quite frankly, and, oh yeah, the alluring bedsheet?...

People should remember where the Game Awards came from by watching the 2007 Spike Video Game Awards

You thought the 2023 Game Awards were bad? Produced by Geoff Keighley, the Spike Video Game Awards took place each year from 2003 until 2013. If you remember the 2007 awards at all, it’s probably for the way they end, however. Levine never gets a chance to speak. This caused controversy at the time. I’ve buried the lede here. “And the winner is… all of us,” he quips. That’s not why I’m posting this now....
