Rather than me becoming Kiryu, I had to create Kiryu from scratch, Takeuchi told IGN Japan.
This is music to my ears, honestly.
I have great respect for the feelings of the fans, Takeuchi says.

He wants a family, he wants love, and he doesnt even realise how much this drives him.
And, yep, thats Kiryu.
Elsewhere, Takeuchi talks about honing Kiryus different fighting styles before and after the characters prison sentence.

I wanted to portray him growing as a fighter, as he gradually becomes able to beat his opponents.
So his fighting style in each of the two eras is very different.
Takeuchi is obviously a bit more fresh-faced than the Dragon Of Dojima we know.
