Towers of Aghasba looks like Monster Hunter with less monster hunting, more gliding and more village building

And look at that, there’s a release date perched on top - 19th November 2024. Kaanliked this onewhen he saw it at last May’s PlayStation showcase. As the name suggests, the Withered look like giant undead tree people. Combat is real-time and seems to be a familiar mix of combos, archery and dodge-rolling. If you need reinforcements, there’s co-op support. Also, you get a hang-glider like the one in Zelda....

Velvet 89 is a free hidden object game that tells the story of the 1989 Czechoslovakian revolution

Velvet 89 is the work of Charles Games, creators ofAttentat 1942. There’s some gentle animation and an enveloping burble of background noise, but the scene is overall static. It’s interestingly eerie. Also eerie: nobody has a face. In each chapter you must find a small number of individuals and hear their stories. Again, there’s a slight sense of foreboding here. The writing is didactic but not deflatingly so. It’s based on testimonies gathered by the Czech project Stories of Injustice....

Wilmot Works It Out review: a meditative muzzle on the box-stacking puzzle

Instead, it exudes a calm and homely sense of idle comfort. For me, that ultimately makes it less compelling, even if it is thematically the entire point. This is about a warehouse worker doing jigsaws on his day off. Here, no such pressures exist. The only snag in your gentle pottering is that some packages will contain surplus pieces. Aha, it’s a bunch of tools. This one is a crowd of trumpeters....

How Sonar Shock became the boldest immersive sim of the year: "I don't think a big game developer would have done it this way"

But those that do tend to complain they couldnt get the hang of the controls. you’re able to understand why. And yet theyre also a unique selling point. “I liked the clunkiness of it because it led to a lot of tension in the gameplay.” Tension and, frankly, panic. Waking up on a Soviet submarine is just the beginning of your disorientation in Sonar Shock. Even at melee range, precision aim is a necessity....

Tormenture takes the Inscryption meta-horror formula back to 8-bit gaming and the 1980s

Did you have one of those phones on wheels with eyes as a kid? Whoever invented that deserves a spell in Arkham Asylum. I assure you that my laptop is not possessed by restless ghosts. It is simply extremely shit. Still, I did play enough to form the impression that this could be a doozie. The trick is that the game within the game is quite fleshed-out. One of the early puzzle rooms has you tempting out a zombie hand to push a button....

In action strategy builder RailGods, Cthulhu is a train and you'd better keep it fed

Without further ado, here’s a trailer. “It craves the flesh of your enemies, demanding their sacrifice as fuel for its relentless journey. One thing the Steam page doesn’t specify is whether you could feed other players to the train. Beyond that, I must predictably ask: Thomas The Tank Engine mod when? It’s safe to say these developers have an appetite for the icky. I haven’t played The Kindeman Remedy, but it sounds far more unpleasant than some train with tentacles....

In paranoia pot-boiler Gangstalk you are the person chasing you

Yes, I too am wearing an expression of puppy-eyed dismay and confusion. Or at least, he thinks he is. So it’s possible that all this is happening in Cam’s poor befuddled noggin. Active threats include predatory phantasms called Datamoshers, who look like Slender Men made of VHS crackly bits. But the intriguing part, again, is the whole “you are your own stalker” conceit. It’s teaching you to fear your own gaze, which poses a fun practical dilemma....

Valve won't sacrifice battery life to deliver a more powerful Steam Deck 2

“We’re not going to do a bump every year. There’s no reason to do that. But it is something that we’re excited about and we’re working on.” There are still a few things they’d like to add to the current generation of Steam Deck handhelds. We just couldn’t get it done on time. And then there’s the apparently decisive question of battery. Me, I have to sleep on a cold, hard bed of bricked Acer netbooks....
